LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) - President Evo Morales says Bolivia will ask the United Nations to convene an emergency meeting to condemn what he calls the U.S. military occupation of Haiti.
Morales says Washington is using last week's devastating earthquake as an excuse for an occupation.
He told reporters Wednesday that Haiti "doesn't need any more blood," implying the U.S. military mission could lead to bloodshed.
Washington has dispatched as many as 11,000 troops to the poor Caribbean nation. It says their primary mission is to distribute aid, though the U.S. troops are also providing security.
The U.N. resolved Tuesday to add 3,500 international military and police peacekeepers to that 8,100-strong contingent already there. The contingent includes Bolivians.
